The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ provides comprehensive information on more than 172,600 globally assessed species

This search page allows you to explore species assessments by taxonomic group - such as amphibians, mammals, birds, plants, fishes, reptiles, and freshwater or marine systems - and filter results using additional criteria. You can view assessment details for each group, click through to access the full assessments, start an advanced search by selecting criteria options, or simply click on one of the example groups listed below.

The example groups provided below are mostly for comprehensively assessed taxonomic groups and selected freshwater groups. Groups that have been comprehensively assessed are those containing >80% of species evaluated within the described taxon group.

Note: For many groups, both spatial and tabular data are available to download. You can click the download button for any group to download the available spatial and tabular data for that selection. Tabular data are provided in CSV format and spatial data are provided in the GeoPackage format. Freshwater species are also mapped to HydroBASINS catchments (CSV tables). It is important to note that some species (such as those listed as Data Deficient) are not mapped and subspecies, varieties and subpopulations are mapped within the parent species. Please also be aware that some files are large and may take longer to download.

The data are made freely available for non-commercial use, to help inform conservation planning and other non-commercial decision-making processes (see Terms and Conditions of Use). For commercial use, please visit the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool (IBAT). For more information about the standards for Red List spatial data, see Mapping Standards and Data Quality for IUCN Red List Spatial Data. For Species Richness and Rarity-Weighted Richness maps and downloads, see here or under the Spatial Data & Mapping Resources heading in the Resources & Publications page.

For all enquiries about spatial data, please contact the IUCN Red List GIS Unit.
