Amendment
The first amendment to the 2023 assessment was created to update the distribution map (to include notes of the Asiatic and West African subpopulations in the map attributes). Other corrections to the assessment and the Supplementary Information were also supposed to be made, but were accidentally overlooked, hence the need for this second amendment. Corrections in this amended version include:- A change in the extant range from 1,566,529.59 km2 to 1,571,296 km2 (this is 6% of its historical range rather than 7.46%).
- The number of mature individuals was previously recorded as 23,000, this number is in fact uncertain as the number of adult and subadult lions is between 22,000 and 25,000, hence the number of mature lions is now left blank.
- A new paragraph is added to the Geographic Range section describing the proportion of extant range in different parts of the Lions distribution range and the overall proportion that falls within protected areas.
- The second paragraph under the Population section is replaced with new wording to better describe the estimated population size.
- The correction of various typos and formatting issues in the assessment and the Supporting Information.
- Table S3 in the Supporting Information has been updated.
