Salix pedicellata is a widespread and abundant species. The existing threats are unlikely to cause a severe decline in the populations in the near future. It is therefore classified as Least Concern.

Salix pedicellata is a steno-Mediterranean species.
In the Mediterranean region, it is found in Spain, Italy, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. There are records from Corsica but they are considered dubious. The species has been formerly reported for Sardinia and Sicily but according to Conti et al. (2007), the records for Sardinia describe S. atrocinerea, and the records for Sicily belong to S. gussonei (Giardina et al. 2007). 
Its extent of occurrence surpasses 3,000,000 km², with several locations.

The species is very widespread in the Mediterranean. The trend of the populations is unknown but presumed to be stable.
- Morocco: present in all of the country with the exception of Saharan Morocco;
- Algeria: common in all of the country;
- Tunisia: fairly frequent, occurring in Kroumirie (Aïn draham, El fedja and Tabarka), the Tunisian Dorsal (Zaghouan, Kessera, Jbel Serdj and Oued Thibar), central Tunisia (Aïn Cherichera) and south Tunisia (oases);
- Spain: quite common, occurring in 48 sites;
- France: only found in Corsica;
- Italy: present in Basilicata and doubtfully in Calabria (Conti et al. 2005).

It is a perennial plant (Phanerophyte) that inhabits the edges of rivers of low and medium mountains. Flowering occurs during winter and spring.

The increase in urbanization and drought frequency, as well as the exploitation of this plant for the extraction of tannins, are the main threats to this species.

It is used for the extraction of tannins.

There are no conservation measures in place or needed.
