For the species assessment all five criteria were considered and the highest threat category was accepted. The available data allow the application of criteria B and D. Criteria A, C and E cannot be applied as there is no information on population size (number of mature individuals) and trends (reduction/decline). According to criterion B the species was assessed as Critically Endangered (CR) B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii) because it has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of less than 100 km², an area of occupancy (AOO) of less than 10 km², and it occurs at only one location. Furthermore, due to the fact that the site the species colonises is adjacent to a central provincial road, agricultural crops and settlements, a continuing decline in area, extent and/or quality of habitat is inferred. Under criterion D2, the AOO (less than 20 km²) of the species and the number of locations (one), along with a plausible threat that could drive the taxon to CR in the near future were it not already CR, would allow its qualification as Vulnerable.

It is a Greek endemic species, known from only one locality in the central Peloponnese (near Tripoli, Nom. Arkadia, Ep. Mantinia: 6 km north north east of Tripolis, Tripolis-Pirgos road, by the branching of the road to Nestani, alt. 650 m) (Greuter 2012).

There is no information about the population size and trends.

This species occurs in woodlands and scrub, and freshwater habitats.

The locality where the species was found is very close to a busy country road and seems to be exposed to various human activities (cultivations, residential facilities etc.) which may result in the reduction or loss of habitat. An event of extreme summer drought could also lead to the disappearance of all mature individuals at once, as the viability of almost all the Oenanthe species strictly depends on the water availability. It is therefore considered to occur at one location.
