This European endemic species lives within a relatively wide range. There are at least 20 known subpopulations, but due to the hidden life of the species this number is probably underestimated. There is no reason to suppose that the species' area of occupancy, extent of occurrence, number of locations, number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating. It is here treated as endemic to the EU as the occurrence in Montenegro requires confirmation.. Therefore, it is assessed as Least Concern (LC) globally, at the European level, and for the EU 27 Member States.

This species is distributed in Central and Southern Italy, as well as in Sicily. In addition, there are two remote stand-alone occurrence records, one is from Herceg-Novi, Montenegro (NHMW, Edlauer collection, see: Boeters et al. 1989) and the other one is from the Louros River Gorge, Epirus, Greece (Fauer collection, see Subai 1993). Despite multiple attempts, it could not be found again in either the Greek or the Montenegrin site (Subai 1993 and Subai pers. comm.), therefore, these two occurrences should be regarded with some reservations. The Greek and Montenegrin locations were not considered when the extent of occurrence (EOO) was calculated.

There are at least 20 known locations in Italy (Boeters et al. 1989, Subai 1977, Reitano et al. 2022), but due to the hidden life of this species, this may still underestimate the number of subpopulations. Currently, there is no reason to suppose that the area of occupancy (AOO), the extent of occurrence (EOO) or the number of locations are declining or extremely fluctuating.

Due to the hidden life of this species, there are no data on population trends. But there is no reason to suppose that the number of subpopulations or the number of mature individuals are declining or extremely fluctuating.

This species occurs in the shallow subterranean part of rocky (mostly limestone) habitats, or near the surface in the soil or under stones. In Sicily Reitano et al. (2022) sampled this species in rocky limestone habitat with mediterranean maquis, under big stones, in leaf litter and plant debris.

Subterranean habitats are relatively untouched and less threatened by human activity. No threat to this species is known and there is no reason to suppose any.

The species is not utilised.

This species is not protected by country-level law in Italy and is not known to be involved in any present or past conservation actions. Considering the large range and the assumed number of subpopulations, some of them inevitably occur within protected areas but it is very difficult to tell how many. According to our present knowledge, species-level protection is not required. Due to the relatively large EOO and the assumption that due to the hidden lifestyle of the species the number of known locations/subpopulations is underestimated, there are no conservation actions currently required for this species.
