The Panoptes Blue is endemic to Europe where it occurs on the Iberian Peninsular and in the Pyrénées-Orientales, France. This species is listed as Least Concern as it has been evaluated against all the IUCN criteria and does not meet any category of threat.

This species is endemic to the European region where it occurs only on the Iberian Peninsula in northern and central Portugal, Spain (more widespread in the eastern half) and in the Pyrénées-Orientales, France. It is found at altitudes between 100 and 1,500 m.

This is a local species, restricted to (semi-) natural habitat, but abundant throughout its range. The Mediterranean Butterfly Red List reported the distribution as fragmented in the Mediterranean region of Portugal (Garcia Pereira and Maravalhas pers. comm.).

The Panoptes Blue closely resembles the Baton Blue. It is also found in dry, scrubby and flower-rich places. The larval hostplants are Thymus zygis, T. vulgaris and T. mastichina. The species has one generation a year and the habitat can be described as low scrub with Salvia, Lavandula or Rosmarinus and open areas within sclerophyllous woodlands. Detailed habitat descriptions are not available.

Although this is a European endemic with a restricted range, this species is not believed to face major threats. This species might be susceptible to climate change in the long-term.

All butterflies are collected to some extent, but only for the extremely rare species can it be a problem and the trade in Europe is generally at a low level compared to other continents. There is no specific trade information for this species.

This species occurs in a number of protected areas across its range. No specific conservation actions are needed at a European level, but since it has a restricted global range, its distribution and population trend should be monitored closely, for example by a butterfly monitoring scheme.
