This herb species is endemic to Kenya. It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 51,239 km². It is known from six localities. It has an area of occupancy (AOO) of 49.928 km² when using a 3.16 x 3.16 km cell size. However using the IUCN standards, AOO should be calculated using a 2 x 2 km cell size, and is therefore 24 km². The species is threatened by the Dakabuko programme for irrigation scheme, agricultural expansion, settlement and industrial development in Kilifi and Mariakani. Population in Manyiro has not been found. The species is protected in Mount Nyiru Forest Reserve, which has little disturbance. It is however under severe pressure in unprotected areas. It is here assessed as Endangered.

Cordylostigma prolixipes is confined to coastal forests (Kwale and Kilifi), Taita hills (Sagala) and Mandera (Mt Nyiru) in Kenya (K1,7). It has an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 51,239 km². It is known from six localities. It has an area of occupancy (AOO) of 49.928 km² when using a 3.16 x 3.16 km cell size. However using the IUCN standards, AOO should be calculated using a 2 x 2 km cell size, and is therefore 24 km².

There is no information about population numbers or trends.

The species is a perennial decumbent herb up to 35 cm, occasional in rocky wooded bushland and grassland up to 1,000 m asl.

The species is threatened by the Dakabuko programme for irrigation scheme, agricultural expansion, settlement and industrial development in Kilifi and Mariakani. The subpopulation in Manyiro has not been found.

There is no information about use or trade of this species.

The species is protected in Mount Nyiru Forest Reserve, which has little disturbance. It is, however, under severe pressure in unprotected areas. This species is not known from ex situ collections (BGCI 2018).
