The species is endemic to Greece. It is found in the floristic region of Kriti and Karpathos. Its area of occupancy is 440 km². The species is not severely fragmented and there are more than 10 known populations. There is no evidence indicating extreme fluctuations. There is no evidence that the species is subject to immediate risk of degradation nor extinction of its populations. No imminent danger has been recorded. It has therefore been assessed as Least Concern (LC).

The species is endemic to Greece. It is present in the floristic region of Kriti and Karpathos. More specifically, it can be found on the islands of Kriti, Kasos, Karpathos and Saria.

There are more than 10 known populations for this species and no imminent danger has been recorded (Ένωση Εταιρειών «NCC ΕΠΕ – ΒΙΟΤΟΠΙΑ – ΟΙΚΟΜ ΕΠΕ» [Association of Companies «NCC EPE – VIOTOPIA – OIKOM EPE»] 2012).

This species occurs in dry open to shady places among calcareous stones, stonewalls or rocks; phrygana, shrubs or woodlands; from sea level up to 800 m (Nardi 1991, Dimopoulos et al. 2022). It grows in slightly damp places in ravines, often under bushes (Dimopoulos et al. 2013).

No imminent danger has been recorded (Ένωση Εταιρειών «NCC ΕΠΕ – ΒΙΟΤΟΠΙΑ – ΟΙΚΟΜ ΕΠΕ» [Association of Companies «NCC EPE – VIOTOPIA – OIKOM EPE»] 2012) for this species.

Some of the islands where the species can be found have few inhabitants (Kasos, Saria). The main threat in these sites may occur by excessive grazing by goats and sheep. In the more densely populated islands (Kriti, Karpathos), the effects of human presence are expected to be more pronounced.

Some of threats recorded in the Natura 2000 sites where this species is located (grazing, fire, habitat alteration) should be taken into consideration.

Individuals of this species may be gathered for research purposes or to be replanted in botanical gardens (live or dead specimens collected by botanists). It's also possible that individuals of this species are gathered by collectors or by tourists (for personal pleasure).

Roughly 33% of its AOO is located within a Category IV (habitat or species management area) IUCN Protected Area, and more specifically the following SCI Natura 2000 sites: GR4210001, GR4210002, GR4210003, GR4310005, GR4310006, GR4320002, GR4320004, GR4320005, GR4320006, GR4330002, GR4330003, GR4330004, GR4330005, GR4340003.
