The species' assessment change between 2007 and 2022 was the result of (i) systematic work: the species was previously published as Hydrobia marocana (Pallary 1921) and was reported from four localities two of them were in Algeria (Ghamizi 1998). Boulaassafer et al. 2021 reported recent systematic findings which led to assigning the species to the genus Corrosella (), since the genus is very restricted to freshwater springs, it is highly endemic and unlikely to be the same species in Algeria. Boulaassafer et al. 2021 restrict the presence of C. marocana in Morocco. The species is now restricted to ditches and irrigation canals where individuals were found in very low abundance attached to stones or dead branches.

The endemic species Corrosella marocana is only known from one locality (Boulaassafer et al. 2021) with a total AOO of only 4 km². It is experiencing a continuing decline in AOO, EOO and fluctuation in its habitat quality due to increasing frequency of drought combined with over-abstraction of water. 
The species is consequently assessed as Critically Endangered under the criterion B1ab(ii,iii)c(ii,iii)+2ab(ii,iii)c(ii,iii).
This species was previously assessed as Endangered in 2007, but the species concept has changed restricting the range, hence the new assessment as CR.

This endemic species is only reported from a single locality, Lahjar Spring, a small freshwater spring about 20 km N-E of the city of Essaouira (Boulaassafer et al. 2021). The spring is mostly used for irrigation and drinking water for the nearby community. The spring has known a drastic change in the last years because of the increasing extraction of water coupled with a decrease in annual precipitation. The spring was recently found dry (Boulaassafer, pers. comm., 2022) hence the villagers made efforts to find water by digging deeper to reach the groundwater, which were successful. Although some individuals of the species were found in adjacent ditches and canals, the continuing decline in water in addition to continuing high demand in water causes extreme fluctuations of water levels in the locality which put the species at high risk of extinction.

During our last survey to the type locality we observed a remarquable decline in the number of individuals found compared to 2015. This decline is the result of a habitat deterioration. Surviving individuals were found in ditched supplied with water pumped from wells, the conditions of these ditches do not correspond to those required by the species which prefers less agitated habitats.

This species is restricted to a small freshwater spring used for drinking water and irrigation. The locality has undergone major changes in water level as it was found dry. These changes are the result of the high demand for water paired with years of drought and scarce precipitations.

There is no evidence of use nor trade for this species.

The only known locality of this species is facing extreme fluctuations in water level caused by climate change and overexploitation of the groundwater for agriculture. In addition, information on population and habitat trends is not available. The survival of the species is reliant to implementing conservation plans paired together with awareness-raising campaigns for the communities on the importance of protecting these fragile ecosystems.
