This species is known from at least 15 localities from China (Guangxi and Yunnan), Laos and Viet Nam. It has a relatively large extent of occurrence (EOO of 337,759 km²). It is known from at least three protected areas and it is likely to be under collected. It grows in dense forests on limestone or secondary or restored forests on many soil types, between 300-700 m altitude. There is a decline in the habitat, however, given the large extent of occurrence and the number of known localities, it is considered as Least Concern.

This species is a tree up to 16 m tall and grows in dense forests on limestone or secondary or restored forests on many soil types, between 300-700 m altitude.

The major threats to this species are deforestation and habitat destruction through conversion to agriculture and plantations. Locally some subpopulations are threatened by limestone mining, urban, road and touristic developments.

The tree is harvested from the wild for its timber and local medicinal uses. Its wood can be used for sawing boards or in construction and tool making. It is not a valuable timber.

This species is known to occur in at least three protected areas. This species is kept in at least four ex situ collections (BGCI 2023a). This species was nationally assessed as Least Concern in China (BGCI 2023b).
