Potentilla greuteriana is a narrow endemic of Mt. Taigetos (S Peloponnisos). The area of occupancy (AOO) and extent of occurrence (EOO) of the species are 8 km² and no more than two locations can be counted for the species, as it is mainly threatened by water shortage in one location and recreational activities (rock climbing) in the other. Its area of occurrence is limited to two disjunct areas, on the rocky systems of North Taigetos, west of the summit Xerovouni and at suitable habitats of Langada gorge, in Central Taigetos (Kyriakopoulos et al., 2018). Potentilla greuteriana forms two main subpopulations that have a total of 500-750 individuals. A continuous decline in the habitat extent and quality of the species has been observed by Kyriakopoulos et al. (2018), especially for the location of Xerovouni where the biggest subpopulation is found and which is used as a climbing field. According to the above, Potentilla greuteriana qualifies for the Endangered category, with the use of the criteria B1ab(iii)+2ab(iii).

Based on current data, its area of occurrence is limited to two, disjunct areas, on the rocky systems of North Taigetos, west of the summit Xerovouni and at suitable habitats of Langada gorge, in Central Taigetos (Kyriakopoulos et al. 2018). Potentilla greuteriana individuals on the Xerovouni summit grow at an altitude of ca 1,150-1,200 m in north-north east exposure, while those of the Langada climbing area grow at an altitude of 750-800 m in south-south east exposure (Kyriakopoulos et al. 2018). The AOO and EOO of the species are both 8 km² and no more than two locations can be counted for the species, as it is mainly threatened by water shortage in one location and recreational activities (rock climbing) in the other.

Potentilla greuteriana forms two main subpopulations that have a total of 500-750 individuals. The subpopulation of the Langada area occupies an area of less than 300 × 50 m (< 1 km²) and consists of 100-150 mature individuals, while the subpopulation of N Taigetos (Xerovouni) develops over an area of 250 × 30 m (< 1 km²) and consists of 400-600 mature individuals.

Potentilla greuteriana is a typical chasmophyte. According to Kyriakopoulos et al. (2018) it grows on shady or half-shaded places, on vertical rocks, which consist of grey to black bituminous (containing solid organic ingredients), karstified limestone, capable of providing the flora that grows on it with the needed water. The species appears to have adapted to the particular features of that limestone substrate, its dense root network effectively penetrating and absorbing water and nutrients from it. A continuous decline in the habitat extent and quality of the species has been observed by Kyriakopoulos et al. (2018), especially for the location of Xerovouni where the biggest subpopulation is found and which is used as a climbing field.

Potentilla greuteriana is a narrow endemic with a very limited area of occurrence in specialised habitats. Based on in-situ observations by Kyriakopoulos et al. (2018), it appears that a necessary condition for the species survival is the uninterrupted supply of water through the capillaries of the calcareous rocks on which it occurs. Possible changes of water potential of the karstified limestone systems, on which it grows, may cause a population decline. Moreover, the subpopulation of the Xerovouni locality is potentially threatened by the fact that the area is used as a climbing field.
