Garuga pinnata is a 25 m tall deciduous canopy tree species of the tropical deciduous rainforests from India to south China. The species has a extent of occurrence (EOO) of 7,777,697 km². The species is seen in good abundance between 400-1,400 m elevation of the tropical deciduous forests across its distribution range. There is an estimated population size of ~160,000 mature individuals. The species is assessed as Least Concern (LC).

The species is distributed in India to south China, including in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam.

It is an important component of the tropical deciduous forests India to south China between 150-900 m elevations. The population estimate for the species is ~160,000 mature individuals.

Garuga pinnata is a 25 m tall deciduous tree of the tropical dry and moist deciduous forests. In China, it occurs as a small tree found in valley scrub and up to 400-1,400 m asl (efloras 2014).

At some localities conversion of large tracts of forests is the major threat and also the forest fires are a threat. Considering the range of the species the threat is not major and the population is stable.

The species is used in traditional medicines and ayurvedic drug industries.

No species specific conservation actions are in place. The species is not considered threatened in China (BGCI 2023).
