Bythinella beckmanni is a freshwater spring snail from Greece, where it is known from two locations on northern and southern Parnonas Mountain, southeast Peloponnese. The species has a very restricted range and its area of occupancy is only 8 km². Reischütz et al. (2008) mention that the species is already probably extinct at the type locality as they collected only empty shells, which was also confirmed by Glöer and Hirschfelder (2020). However, since it was also discovered in another location (Radea et al. 2015), the species may have a wider distribution than previously expected, although it remains threatened. Threats at the two known sites are not known, however general threats affecting Bythinella species include water abstraction for human uses and the future threat of increasing drought conditions driven by climate change. There is insufficient information to be able to say the population or its habitat is undergoing continuing decline at present, but lowering of water levels is a plausible threat. Given that the species may already be lost from its type locality, if continuing decline is confirmed, this species may rapidly move into Critically Endangered. Therefore is assessed as Vulnerable under criterion D2 until mandatory research is conducted to establish the distribution, population trends and threats to this species.

This species was only known from a spring at Mari, a village south of Leonidio on the southern slope of Parnonas Mountain, Arkadia, Peloponnese, and not at Argolida as mentioned in Reischütz et al. (2008). Later, it was also discovered in a new locality, on the northern slope of Parnonas Mountain (Radea et al. 2015), but the exact locality of this site is not specified. Therefore, the species may have a wider distribution than previously expected, but further research is suggested to determine the true distribution of the species.

Reischütz et al. (2008) mention that the species was probably already extinct because they discovered only empty shells, and Glöer and Hirschfelder (2020) who revisited the site in 2018 were also unable to find the species in the type locality spring. However, since it was also discovered in another location by Radea et al. (2015) the species is not yet extinct although it remains seriously threatened. More research is required to investigate the current status of this species.

This species inhabits two freshwater springs on the southern and northern slope of Parnonas Mountain, southeast Peloponnese, Greece (Reiscütz et al. 2008). The species is syntopic with the newly described Bythinella alexpeteri, recorded from the type locality of Bythinella beckmanni (Glöer and Hirschfelder 2020).

Reischütz et al. (2008) mention that major threats for all the Bythinella spp. are lowering of the ground water level due to over-abstraction of water for human activities, such as agriculture, stock farming or tourism, as well as pollution of water. However, it is not known if this species is affected by these threats at present. However, droughts due to climate change may impact it in the future.

The species is not traded or utilised.

No conservation measures are implemented for this species. Parnonas Mountain is protected under the Natura 2000 network [Oros Parnonas (Kai Periochi Malevis) (GR2520006)], but the spring on the southern slope of Parnonas is not included in the protected area. Further research is suggested to establish distribution, population trends and threats to allow a revised Red List assessment.
