This species is listed as Data Deficient because too much information is missing: taxonomy, distribution, biology and threats. This species is closely related to Purpuricenus graecus and there is a need for more research on taxonomy, distribution and biology.

This species was recently described from a very small area of Greece, in the Laconia, near the village of Karyes (Καρυές). No other localities are known.

This species is known from 11 individuals collected from 2012 to 2018. The population trend is unknown, although a stable population is expected.

This is an obligate saproxylic species. It lives in Mediterranean oak woods and open forests. It has been reared only from Quercus coccifera (Vartanis and Ambrus 2015, Hoskovec et al. 2021). Larval development takes place in live twigs of trees and lasts two to three years. The larval girdling activity rapidly leads to the twig drying and death.

There is no serious threat to this species as it lives in the dead branches of living trees. The isolation, size and possible fragmentation of the population may pose a threat to this species due to the genetic and reproductive effects inherent in this kind of situation.

No indications of use or trade are known for this species.

This species is not protected nor does it occur in a strictly protected area. More research is needed about every aspect of the species' taxonomy, biology and distribution.
