The species has a scattered distribution, reported only from five localities in western and eastern Crete, Greece. Its population therefore seems to be fragmented, but is not necessarily severely fragmented (under the IUCN definition of this term). Based on current data, it has a restricted area of occupancy (AOO = 20 km²) within an extent of occurrence of around 442 km². Habitat modifications are occurring at the sites, but it is not known if this is causing a continuing decline in this species' habitat. Therefore it is assessed as Near Threatened, nearly meeting criteria B2ab(iii)+2ab(iii).

This species is endemic to Crete (Brundin 1944, Assing 2019). It is distributed in eastern (Katharo plateau and Thrypti) and western Crete (Omalos, Elos, Kampoi) (Assing 2013, 2015, 2019, 2022).

Τhere are no population size or trend data available for this species. The distribution is fragmented, but this does not necessarily equate to a severely fragmented population.

It has been found under stones in pastures and on the bank of a stream on the Katharo plateau as well as near artificial ponds and in oak thickets (Assing 2013, 2015, 2019, 2022).

The destruction of its habitat from land use (i.e. agriculture) is a potential threat to the species. There is severe grazing in the area, along with possible pesticide use. Fire may also be a threat.

Most sites in which it occurs are within the Natura 2000 network. More research is needed to collect data on this species' distribution, ecology and habitat requirements, population size and trends, and threats.
