Currently, the species is considered endemic to Greece, although there are records in Albania that need further investigation to confirm whether these refer to Noccaea epirotica or not. Within Greece, this plant is restricted to the floristic region of Northern Pindos, where it occurs in five locations. The population is not severely fragmented and there is no information available concerning the number and composition of subpopulations nor the number of mature individuals. There is no evidence indicating continuing decline nor extreme fluctuations. There is no evidence that the species is subject to immediate risk of degradation nor extinction of its populations. However, there are current threats that may cause the species to decline in the future, although these are unlikely to make the species Extinct or Critically Endangered in a short time. The species nearly meets the criteria B1, B2 and D2, and it is therefore assessed as Near Threatened (NT).

The species is endemic to Greece, and is restricted to the floristic region of Northern Pindos. It has been recorded in the mountains Mavrovouni (north of Metsovon), Milea, Avgo, Smolikas (Strid and Tan 1986) and Grammos (Strid and Tan 2003).

The species is also recorded in the GR2130006 SDF (European Environment Agency 2022). However, since it occurs in an altitude of 1,800-2,600 m, very small areas inside GR2130006 have an altitude of over 1,800 m and there is no other record of this species in that area, confirmation is need as to whether there is a population of Noccaea epirota inside the Natura site.

It is worth mentioning that there are also records of the species in Albania (Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève - G. Geneva Herbarium – General Collection (G) n.d.), although confirmation is needed that these refer to this species.

There is not enough known about this species’ population. However, since its population is restricted only to a few high altitude areas of Northern Pindos where there is little human activity, it is suspected that there isn’t any negative population trend.

This species grows in serpentine rocks and screes. It can be found in an altitude of 1,800–2,600 m (Strid and Tan 2003).

There is not enough known about the threats to this species. However, some of threats recorded in the Natura 2000 sites where this species is located (grazing, fire, erosion, collection) should be taken into consideration.

Individuals of this species may be gathered for research purposes or to be replanted in botanical gardens (live or dead specimens collected by botanists). It's also possible that individuals of this species are gathered by collectors or by tourists (for personal pleasure).

Roughly 77% of its AOO is located within a Category IV (habitat or species management area) IUCN Protected Area, and more specifically the following SCI Natura 2000 sites: GR1310003, GR1320002, GR4210003, GR2130002.  A part of the species’ population can also be found inside a Category II (national park) IUCN protected area, and more specifically the national parks “Ethniko Parko Pindou” and “Ethnikos Drymos Pindos”.

The species is recorded in the GR2130006 SDF (European Environment Agency 2022). However, since there is no other record of this species in that area, confirmation is need as to whether there is a population of Noccaea epirota inside the Natura site. There are also records of Noccaea epirota in Albania (Conservatoire et Jardin botaniques de la Ville de Genève - G. Geneva Herbarium – General Collection (G) n.d.). The species' distribution should be researched and its presence (or absence) in the above area should be confirmed.

The species' number of locations is small. Some of the localities of the species could be destroyed by a number of threats (such as overgrazing, fire, erosion). It is recommended that the species is conserved ex-situ, e.g. in a botanical garden or a seed bank. In addition, it would be beneficial for the species' population size and trends to be researched and monitored.
