This tree species is only confirmed from Sri Lanka, but it has also been reported from Myanmar. It grows in lowland forests up to 600 m altitude and these forests are under threat of deforestation and habitat destruction. This species has a small extent of occurrence (EOO of 6,918 km²) but is likely to be under collected and it occurs within at least one protected area. It is not considered threatened on national Red List of Sri Lanka. Therefore, it is considered Least Concern.

This tree or shrub species is known from Sri Lanka, it is also reported from Myanmar.

No information is known about the population size and trends of this species.

This species is a tree or shrub between 2–12 m tall and grows in lowland forests up to 600 m altitude.

In some localities the species is impacted by deforestation and habitat destruction through conversion to agriculture and plantations. Locally some subpopulations are threatened by urban, road and touristic developments. 

The plant is sometimes harvested from the wild for local use as a medicine.

This species is known to occur in at least one protected area. This species is not kept in any ex situ collection (BGCI 2023). This species was nationally assessed as Least Concern in Sri Lanka (BGCI 2023).
