The species is widespread across Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra. The extent of occurrence is over one million square kilometres. The species is found in numerous localities, including several protected areas. There is likely population decline due to habitat conversion and use of the species for timber, however the extent of decline is not known. Given the wide range of the species and numerous localities, it is assessed as Least Concern.

This tree is found in Indonesia (south and central Sumatra; Kalimantan) and is widely distributed in Sabah and Sarawak (Malaysia). It is also occurs in Peninsular Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.

The use of the species for timber is likely to cause ongoing population decline. Currently, the rate of this is unknown.

This tree reaches 45 m tall, and is found in freshwater and peat swamp forest and very occasionally in submontane forest up to 1,500 m.

There is great demand for wood of this genus which is traded as Perupok. This alongside habitat conversion is a threat to the species.

This species produces merchantable timber, which is in great demand and trade as Perupok.

There are several subpopulations in protected areas. In East Kalimantan, a process has been set up to record 'superior mother trees'. Harvest, trade and use of the species needs monitoring to prevent severe declines from timber use.
