This herb species has a large extent of occurrence and area of occupancy. There are no known major threats to this species. This species occurs in Réserve de Biosphère de Yangambi, Nyungwe National Park, Kigogo Forest Reserve, Livingstone Forest Reserve, Dzalanyama Forest Reserve and Mulanje Forest Reserve. There are no conservation actions in place. Also, it is not known from ex situ collections. It is here assessed as Least Concern.

Bulbophyllum unifoliatum is an epiphytic herb with pseudobulbs 0.5 to 9 cm apart on the rhizome, 1-leafed, 1.2–4 × 0.5–1.5 cm, ellipsoidis. It is distributed in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe (Flora Zambesiaca Vol 11, Part 1, 1995). It has an extent of occurrence of 2,934,640 km². It is known from twenty two localities. It has an area of occupancy (AOO) of 219.68 km², however, using the IUCN standards, AOO should be calculated using a 2 x 2 km grid, and is therefore 88 km².

There is no information about population numbers or trends.

Mainly found in evergreen and riverine forests. It occurs at altitudes between 900-2,000 m.

There are no known major threats to this species.

There is no information about use or trade of this species, but it might be grown by specialist collectors.

This species occurs in Réserve de Biosphère de Yangambi, Nyungwe National Park, Kigogo Forest Reserve, Livingstone Forest Reserve, Dzalanyama Forest Reserve and Mulanje Forest Reserve. There are no conservation actions in place. It is listed in CITES Appendix II, but it is not known from ex situ collections (BGCI 2018).
