This species is endemic to Uganda. Its extent of occurrence could not be calculated, and it has very small area of occupancy. The species is threatened by occasional illegal tree felling. Although it is found in Budongo Forest, the protected area faces general illegal felling of trees for timber and there are no direct conservation actions in place. It has not been collected or seen since 1944 hence it is considered possibly extinct. Also, not known from ex situ collections. It is here assessed as Critically Endangered (Possibly Extinct).

Distylodon comptum is endemic to Budongo Forest, SW Uganda (U2). Its extent of occurrence could not be calculated because it is known from only one locality. Based on currently available information and using a 2 x 2 km grid cell, as recommended by IUCN, its area of occupancy (AOO) is 4 km², but it could be zero if the species is extinct.

There is no information about population numbers or trends.

Distylodon comptum is a dwarf epiphytic herb, with a short bilaterally flattened stem 1.5 cm long. This species occurs in lowland tropical rainforest, at +/- 1,000 m asl.

The species is threatened by occasional illegal tree felling.

There is no information on any use or trade, but it might be sought by specialist collectors.
