Ixora euosmia and I. degemensis used to be treated as separate species.

This species is a glabrous shrub or small tree confined to coastal and riparian forests in Nigeria and Cameroon. Its habitat is subjected to anthropogenic threats (mining, deforestation and implementation of hydroelectric projects) in its native habitat that are increasing the extinction risk of this species. It has an estimated extent of occurrence of 137,062 km² and an estimated area of occupancy of 76 km². It is calculated to have 11–12 locations. It is therefore assessed here as Near Threatened.

This taxon is found in southern Nigeria and Cameroon. It is strictly confined to coastal and riparian forests of Degema in Nigeria and Cameroon. It has an estimated extent of occurrence of 137,000 km² and an estimated area of occupancy of 76 km².

This species is threatened by habitat loss in Degema, southern Nigeria due to mining activities in surrounding areas. Mertens and Lambin (2000) reported a continuous trend of deforestation in southern Cameroon, which has the potential to destroy subpopulations of this taxon. A hydroelectric dam has been built at the Memve’ele falls of Ntem River in Cameroon. Alternation to the seasonal water levels can have significant negative effects on this species (Plummer et al. 2021).

There are no known economic uses of the species. Ethnobotanical study might be necessary to determine the species' local uses and harvest trends.
