Bellevalia juliana is endemic to eastern Crete, Greece, where is it currently known from two adjacent localities: the type locality (Elounda area) and on the nearby Kolokytha Islet. The subpopulation at the type locality is small and consists of ca 100 individuals, with as few as 20 mature individuals counted in 2010 (Bareka et al. 2015). On Kolokytha islet the subpopulation is much larger, with probably several hundred individuals counted in 2010, although not all were mature individuals. It is highly likely that almost all of the individuals in this population now exist on Kolokytha Islet. It is estimated that the population size is undergoing continuing decline. Therefore, this meet the conditions for Endangered under criterion C (EN C2a(ii)).

At the type locality, this species grows on an east-facing rocky limestone hillside on abandoned cultivation terraces with scattered olive trees (Olea europaea), impacted by residential development. On Kolokytha Islet to the east, the plant is found in abandoned fields on the western side of the island facing Elounda town, where it is not currently facing any threats. Both the extent of occurrence (EOO) and the area of occupancy (AOO) are estimated at 8 km², and there is a continuing decline projected in the area and quality of habitat and population size. Currently the species is considered to occur in two locations. Therefore, it also meets the conditions for Endangered under criterion B (EN B1ab(iii,v)+2ab(iii,v)).

It was recorded at altitudes from near sea level to 155 m (Bareka et al. 2015). Its extent of occurrence (EOO) and area of occupancy (AOO) are both estimated at 8 km².

On Kolokytha islet the subpopulation is much larger, with probably several hundred individuals counted in 2010, although not all were mature individuals.

At the type locality the species is threatened by intense residential development, whilst on Kolokytha Islet the subpopulation is not currently facing any threat (Bareka et al. 2015).

No trade or use currently known.

Kolokytha Islet is protected from development, such as the construction of roads and buildings. Further research is recommended to confirm the species distribution, and protection of habitat is required.
